2.0 SAMPLE PROJECTS
Fluid serves the following market areas:
Correctional Facilities: RCMP detachment renovations and new construction at various Vancouver Island locations, including Victoria, Fort Ware, Ahousaht, Port Hardy, and Gold River. Projects include both holding cell renovations as well as full detachment construction. Both Allan and Charles have the required RCMP security clearances to allow us to work on these projects.
Governmental: Office renovation projects for the City of Vancouver Justice Access Centre, as well as renovations at various WorkSafe BC locations, BC Housing, the Ministry of Housing and Social Development, and the Ministry of Children and Family Development throughout the Lower Mainland.
Fire Halls, Community Centres, etc.: Fire hall renovation projects include the Pitt Meadows fire hall and the Parksville fire hall, plus mechanical design of the Abbotsford Airport fire hall, and design for the recently-opened Mayne Island fire hall. We are also involved with several First Nations bands throughout British Columbia, having completed design work for multi-purpose community centers, teacher residences, and other community projects.
Restaurants: Since its inception, Fluid has been the mechanical engineer for the Original Joe’s Restaurant and Bar franchise, and has completed over 80 of their projects in the four western provinces. This is only one of a myriad of our clients in this industry, with clients ranging from the White Spot franchise to the new Tap and Barrel restaurant and bar at the foot on Lonsdale in North Vancouver.
Commercial and Retail Projects: We have many commercial and retail clients who continue to return to us for their mechanical engineering needs, including the Dollarama franchise, Reitmans, Scotiabank, Gateway Casinos, and many more. We have been involved with a number of renovation projects at the Abbotsford airport terminal building, CBSA building and holding cells area, as well as an extensive renovation of the Prince Rupert Airport, currently under construction.

3.0 SENIOR COMPANY PERSONNEL
Allan Hughes is a company principal and co-founder of Fluid Mechanical Engineering Ltd. Mr. Hughes is the primary HVAC designer for the company. Duties include calculation of heating and cooling loads for optimum HVAC equipment selection. Mr. Hughes brings 20+ years of HVAC design experience to the project team, and has worked extensively in the Lower Mainland area.
Charles Powell received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1998 and started work in engineering consulting in the Greater Toronto Area in 1999. Working at a small but successful private practice, Mr. Powell received a P. Eng. Certification in Ontario in 2002 and has maintained continual P. Eng. Certification since that time. In 2003, Mr. Powell relocated to the Vancouver area and again obtained employment in the engineering consulting industry. After stints at two area consulting firms, Mr. Powell and a partner started business as Fluid Mechanical Engineering Ltd. In 2007. Mr. Powell has memberships at the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC), Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS), Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), and is a 14-year member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Mr. Powell acts as the Design Leader for Fluid.
